Tim Carrico
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Instructor (Checkmat)
I began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2010, shortly after becoming a police officer. I was looking for a martial art that would help me protect myself and others while performing my duties in law enforcement. What began as professional skill development quickly grew into a genuine love and passion for the effectiveness, complexity, and beauty of the art.
Throughout my law enforcement career, I remained committed to training and competing. Jiu-Jitsu helped me strengthen my control-tactics skills, maintain my physical fitness, manage stress, and continually challenge myself both physically and mentally.
Over the years, I have competed at every belt level, testing my skills against high-level competitors and using each experience as an opportunity to learn and improve. Some of my most notable accomplishments include:
- 2018 World Master Silver Medalist, Blue Belt
- 2019 World Master Silver Medalist, Purple Belt
- 2020 Pan American Middle Heavyweight Champion, Purple Belt
- 2020 Pan American Open Weight Champion, Purple Belt
- 2021 Pan American Champion, Brown Belt
- 2022 Pan American Bronze Medalist, Brown Belt
- 2022 World Master Bronze Medalist, Brown Belt
- Orlando Open Champion, Brown Belt
- Kansas City Open Champion, Purple Belt
- Atlanta Open Champion, Purple Belt
- Oklahoma City Open Champion, Purple Belt
- Two-time Charlotte Open Champion, Purple and Brown Belt
- Three-time DC Open Champion, Blue and Purple Belt
In 2020, I was ranked the No. 1 Master 1 Purple Belt in the world. In 2023, I was honored to receive my black belt from Professor Rob Hurd on behalf of Leo Vieira and Team Checkmat.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge, experience, and passion for Jiu-Jitsu with the local community. My goal is to help every student grow in confidence, develop practical skills, and progress along their own Jiu-Jitsu journey.
